Synopsis
A Perfect Day (2015) is a Balkans-set war dramedy you can watch online on iFILM. It's 1995, the fighting has mostly stopped, and a team of aid workers needs to haul a bloated corpse out of a village well before it poisons the water everyone depends on. Should take minutes. It takes days.
The body isn't the problem. The rope snaps, there's no replacement for miles, and everyone they meet — jittery locals, UN peacekeepers, a wall of pointless paperwork — turns one chore into an ordeal. Benicio del Toro plays the burnt-out, deadpan veteran of the crew; Tim Robbins is his motormouth partner; Olga Kurylenko and Mélanie Thierry round out a road trip through ground that may or may not be mined.
Director Fernando León de Aranoa made a war film with barely a shot fired, where the real enemy is how conflict makes common sense a luxury. The pitch-black comedy works like a painkiller.
