Synopsis
Take the Lead (2006) is a music drama you can watch online on iFILM. Antonio Banderas plays a ballroom instructor in a story drawn from the real career of dancer Pierre Dulaine.
Dulaine watches a teenager trash a parked car and, instead of calling the cops, walks into a tough New York high school to supervise the kid's detention with dance. The class he inherits is rough: kids from struggling neighborhoods who think waltz and tango are a joke. Rather than override their taste, he fuses strict Latin steps with the hip-hop they actually move to. Alfre Woodard plays the wary principal, while Rob Brown and Yaya DaCosta lead the students.
Director Liz Friedlander came out of music videos, and it shows in how the dance scenes cut — sharp, percussive, free of the usual school-drama sap.
