Austenland

Austenland (2013) is a romantic comedy from director Jerusha Hess that you can watch online on iFILM. Based on Shannon Hale's novel, it gently roasts the most devoted corner of Jane Austen fandom.

Jane Hayes is in her early thirties and stuck. No real man measures up to Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice, so she drains her savings on a trip to Austenland, an English resort that sells a full Regency fantasy. Guests get the gowns, the balls, the manor house, and actors hired to play dashing gentlemen. The longer Jane stays, the harder it gets to tell where the scripted romance ends and an actual feeling begins.

Keri Russell plays Jane with a likable awkwardness, while Jennifer Coolidge steals every scene as a loud, wealthy guest with zero filter. JJ Feild and Bret McKenzie circle her as two very different suitors. The film is light and knowingly silly, but it understands exactly what it is teasing.
