Synopsis
Sibyl (2019) is a French-Belgian psychological drama from director Justine Triet, and you can watch it online on iFILM. A burned-out therapist walks away from her practice to write a novel, only to find her inspiration in the worst possible place: her newest patient.
Virginie Efira stars as Sibyl, who lets the line between her clients and her manuscript dissolve completely. In comes Margot (Adèle Exarchopoulos), a young actress pregnant by her co-star and falling apart on set. Sibyl secretly records their sessions and pours the borrowed pain straight onto the page. Then she travels to the film shoot herself and ends up tangled in the very story she's stealing.
Triet braids therapy, a movie-within-a-movie, and Sibyl's own buried memories into something jittery and faintly absurd. Gaspard Ulliel and Sandra Hüller round out the cast, and the film competed in the main slate at Cannes. Best for viewers who like their drama tipping toward farce, with no stable ground to stand on.
