Synopsis
The Brink (2015), Season 1 — watch online on iFILM, all 10 episodes of HBO's geopolitical dark comedy. A military coup in Pakistan puts nuclear weapons in play and threatens to start World War III — and the Americans tasked with stopping it are uniquely ill-equipped.
Secretary of State Walter Larson (Tim Robbins) is working every diplomatic channel he has while the White House keeps cutting him off. Low-level embassy staffer Alex Talbot (Jack Black) in Islamabad gets captured by soldiers loyal to the coup leader, escapes, and promptly lands in something equally bad. Navy fighter pilot Zeke (Pablo Schreiber) on an aircraft carrier in the Red Sea keeps receiving orders he probably should not follow. Three storylines, three slow-motion disasters.
The show earns its genre straddling — the geopolitics are coherent enough to take seriously, and the comedy does not undercut the stakes. Stream The Brink Season 1 online on iFILM.
