The Avengers

The Avengers (1998) is a spy adventure with a sci-fi streak you can watch online on iFILM. Forget the Marvel team — this is the big-screen take on the cult 1960s British series with John Steed and Emma Peel.

Director Jeremiah Chechik assembled a marquee cast. Ralph Fiennes plays the unflappable, bowler-hatted Steed; Uma Thurman is the leather-clad Dr. Emma Peel; and Sean Connery turns up as the villain, Sir August de Wynter, who has built a weather-control machine and threatens to freeze the planet unless the world bends to him. Trading dry quips, Steed and Peel set out to stop him.

Critics savaged it on release, but over the years it has picked up a following for its retro-futurist style: oversized storybook sets, eccentric costumes, a score by Annie Lennox.
