Alex Trebek hosted for 37 years and turned the show into something close to a national institution before his death in 2020. That run produced Ken Jennings — 74 consecutive wins, still the record — and more than 30 Emmy Awards. Jennings now holds the hosting chair permanently. Each episode pits three players against categories that span geography, science, film, and celebrity gossip, with the Double Jeopardy! and Final Jeopardy! rounds reshuffling everything in the closing minutes. It is the rare game show that works equally well as background noise and as a competitive sport.
