Synopsis
Queen Sugar (2016), Season 1 is a family drama you can watch online on iFILM — 13 episodes in which a father's death pulls three near-stranger siblings back into one another's lives.
Charley walks away from a polished Los Angeles life and drives home to Louisiana to claim her inheritance: 800 acres of sugarcane. Waiting for her are sister Nova, a New Orleans journalist and activist, and brother Ralph Angel, desperate to prove he can work the land on his own. From there the threads knot together — Charley's husband on trial, a fight over the deed, a hurricane that batters the harvest, old grievances that never really faded. Each episode is shot like a small film.
Created by Ava DuVernay for OWN, the show watches the Black American South with unusual tenderness. This season is for viewers who like slow drama about land, kinship and the debts the past leaves behind. Stream Queen Sugar Season 1 online on iFILM.
