8-Bit Christmas

8-Bit Christmas (2021) is a family comedy with Neil Patrick Harris that you can watch online on iFILM. A grown-up Jake tells his daughter the story of the year he waged an all-out campaign for one video game console under the tree.

The flashback drops us into suburban Chicago in the late 1980s. Ten-year-old Jake Doyle, played by Winslow Fegley, wants exactly one thing: a Nintendo, the holy grail of every kid on the block. His parents have laid down the law, no game systems in the house. So Jake schemes, saves, fibs, cuts shady playground deals and ropes his friends into a full conspiracy to land that box by Christmas morning. Steve Zahn plays his hardworking dad, a man with firm ideas about what makes a proper gift.

It plays like A Christmas Story for kids raised on pixel sprites: warm nostalgia, a wry narrator, and an ending that lands a quieter punch about what you actually remember years later, and it isn't the toy.
