About

Synopsis

America's Sweethearts (2001), directed by Joe Roth, is a Hollywood romantic comedy you can watch online on iFILM. The joke is aimed at the movie business itself: a beloved on-screen couple has split, yet the studio still needs both of them smiling through a press junket for their new picture.

Gwen (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Eddie (John Cusack) were the industry's golden duo until their marriage collapsed in full public view. Veteran publicist Lee (Billy Crystal) and Gwen's overlooked assistant Kiki are sent in to fake a reconciliation for the cameras. Kiki, played by Julia Roberts, watches her own plan unravel the moment she starts falling for Eddie herself. Throw in a reclusive director holding the finished film hostage, and the junket turns into chaos.

Billy Crystal co-wrote the script with Peter Tolan, and the supporting bench is deep: Christopher Walken, Stanley Tucci, Alan Arkin, and Hank Azaria with a ridiculous Spanish accent. It's breezy showbiz satire built for anyone who loves an early-2000s ensemble cast. Watch America's Sweethearts (2001) online on iFILM.
