Synopsis
Dear White People (2014) is a sharp satirical comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Set at a fictional Ivy League university, it follows a handful of Black students figuring out who they are inside an overwhelmingly white campus.
Samantha White hosts the provocative campus radio show that gives the film its title, skewering racial hypocrisy without mercy. Around her orbit Troy, the ambitious dean's son; Lionel, an outsider journalist who fits in nowhere; and Coco, chasing reality-TV fame. Their stories collide when a student magazine throws a blackface-themed party and the simmering tension finally erupts. Tessa Thompson, Tyler James Williams, Teyonah Parris and Dennis Haysbert lead the cast.
This was writer-director Justin Simien's feature debut, which picked up a Special Jury breakthrough prize at Sundance and later spun off into a Netflix series of the same name. Simien tackles race, identity and belonging with bite and real humor, never settling into a lecture. It is a treat for anyone who loves smart campus stories with a social edge.
