Proof (2005) is John Madden's drama, available to watch online on iFILM. After the death of her father, a brilliant mathematician whose mind was eaten away by illness, Catherine is left afraid that she inherited his madness along with his gift for numbers.

Catherine (Gwyneth Paltrow) dropped out of school to care for her father Robert (Anthony Hopkins), and on the day of his funeral she is barely holding together. One of Robert's former graduate students, Hal (Jake Gyllenhaal), starts digging through dozens of the dead man's notebooks, hoping for an unpublished discovery. He finds one — and inside is a proof that could rewrite the field. The trouble is that Catherine says she wrote it, not her father, and almost no one believes her, least of all her sister Claire (Hope Davis), who has flown in to sort out the estate.

The script adapts David Auburn's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, which Madden had already staged on the London stage with Paltrow in the lead. The film runs not on equations but on a plain, frightening question: where does genius end and breakdown begin, and can you trust your own mind.
