Outland

Outland (1981) is Peter Hyams' science-fiction thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Sean Connery stars as a federal marshal stationed on Io, a volcanic moon of Jupiter where a mining colony is the only spark of life in a dead stretch of space.

Marshal O'Niel arrives just as workers start losing their minds — tearing off helmets in vacuum, walking into airlocks, dying in ways no accident report can explain. The colony's slick manager (Peter Boyle) blames the pressure of the job. O'Niel keeps digging and uncovers a banned stimulant that pushes the crew past every limit to hit quota, then kills them. The moment he refuses to look away, hired guns are booked on the next shuttle, and the whole station decides he no longer exists.

Strip away the spacesuits and it's High Noon: a lone lawman against a town that sold him out, the dusty street swapped for cold corridors and the black void past the window. Frances Sternhagen is excellent as the station doctor, his one reluctant ally. That grubby, claustrophobic vision of an industrial future still bites.
