About

Synopsis

Rising Sun (1993) is Philip Kaufman's culture-clash thriller you can watch online on iFILM, pairing Sean Connery with Wesley Snipes. A woman is found strangled in the boardroom of a Japanese corporation's Los Angeles tower, and two mismatched cops draw the case.

Detective Web Smith knows nothing about Japanese protocol, so he leans on John Connor, an investigator who spent years in Tokyo and reads a bow or a silence like a paragraph. Their best lead is security footage that captures the killing in full. Trouble is, the disc has been tampered with, and behind the edit sits a corporate war where business meetings cut deeper than any gun. Harvey Keitel, Tia Carrere and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa fill out the ranks.

It's adapted from Michael Crichton's novel, shot by cinematographer Michael Chapman. A solid watch if you like a procedural that runs on the friction between two cultures, where the real mystery isn't who did it but what the recording actually shows. Stream Rising Sun (1993) online on iFILM.
