About

Synopsis

Brewster's Millions (1985) is a Walter Hill comedy you can watch online on iFILM, headlined by Richard Pryor and John Candy. Monty Brewster, a washed-up minor-league pitcher, learns he stands to inherit $300 million from a dead relative he never met.

There's a trap in the will. To collect the full fortune, Monty has to burn through $30 million in thirty days and own nothing to show for it at the end — no property, no assets, no stashed cash. And he can't tell a soul why he's hemorrhaging money. The dream curdles fast: the harder he spends, the more the money sticks to his hands. He pours it into a ridiculous political campaign, an entire rented hotel and wildly generous tips, while loyal buddy Spike (Candy) scrambles to keep up.

The plot goes back to George Barr McCutcheon's 1902 novel, filmed close to a dozen times, but the Pryor version is the one people remember. The humor is pure mid-eighties, yet Pryor's manic energy and Candy's easy warmth carry the whole thing. It's a light, undemanding watch for a night when you just want to laugh.
