Pet Sematary II

Pet Sematary II (1992) is Mary Lambert's horror sequel set in Stephen King's world, and you can watch it online on iFILM. After his mother dies in a freak movie-set accident, thirteen-year-old Jeff and his veterinarian father move to sleepy Ludlow, the town with that infamous burial ground.

At his new school Jeff befriends Drew, a kid terrorized by his stepfather, town sheriff Gus Gilbert. When Gus coldly shoots the boy's dog, the friends bury it in the old Micmac plot where the soil gives the dead back. The dog returns wrong. From there the urge to bring back something bigger starts outweighing the fear. Edward Furlong plays Jeff fresh off Terminator 2, Clancy Brown is the menacing sheriff, and Anthony Edwards plays the dad.

Lambert, who also directed the first film, makes this one nastier and meaner than the original, trading family grief for gore, black comedy and teenage rage. King had no hand in the script and it shows, yet as a standalone early-90s slasher it moves with real energy. A solid pick for fans of grimy old-school horror.
