Synopsis

The Odd Couple (1968) is the Gene Saks comedy you can watch online on iFILM, built from Neil Simon's hit Broadway play. Two newly single men share one Manhattan apartment, and the result is a slow-motion collision of wills.

Oscar Madison (Walter Matthau) is a sportswriter whose place is a wreck of cigar ash, warm beer and stale poker-night sandwiches. Felix Ungar (Jack Lemmon) is the friend he takes in after Felix's marriage falls apart — a fussy neurotic who vacuums at midnight, cooks on a strict schedule, and leaves passive-aggressive notes signed with a smiley face. Oscar means to rescue a lonely pal from despair. Within weeks he wants to strangle him. The friendship cracks along the exact fault line that ended both their marriages.

Simon adapted his own script, and the dialogue is machine-tooled — every poker scene lands. The real treasure is the Lemmon-Matthau chemistry, a double act so good it spun off a whole television series. Smart, featherlight, and not a dead minute in it. Stream The Odd Couple (1968) online on iFILM.
