Synopsis
Secondhand Lions (2003) is an American family comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM, starring Michael Caine and Robert Duvall opposite a young Haley Joel Osment.
Shy Walter gets dumped for the summer on two cranky bachelor great-uncles, Garth and Hub, at their ranch in rural Texas. The old men are gloriously odd. They fire shotguns at door-to-door salesmen and, on a whim, order a real African lion through the mail. Around town people whisper that the pair once robbed banks, or hid a fortune somewhere, or worse. As Walter digs for the truth, Hub unspools a wild tale of desert sheikhs, a kidnapped princess and a life lived without brakes.
Writer-director Tim McCanlies pulls off something rare: a movie that plays for kids and adults at once, where the laughs sit right next to real ache. Duvall and Caine sell every tall story so well you stop caring whether it's true. Warm without turning sweet, it's a film about choosing what's worth believing in.
