The series follows him from his first days as a cowboy into the bloody Lincoln County War — a feud of merchants, cattlemen and hired guns that turned a kid into a legend. Tom Blyth plays Billy without the romantic gloss: charming, quick to anger, sinking deeper into violence.

Created by Michael Hirst of Vikings fame, the show favors slow character build-up over a parade of shootouts. It's shot wide and dusty, full of horses and long open plains.
