Synopsis
Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons (西游·降魔篇, 2013) is a Stephen Chow fantasy action film you can watch online on iFILM. Young demon hunter Tang Sanzang tries to tame monsters with kindness and nursery rhymes instead of a blade — and mostly gets thrown around for his trouble.
His faith in compassion starts to crack against a river beast and a savage Pig Demon. Rescue keeps arriving in the form of Miss Duan (Shu Qi), a tougher hunter who solves everything with her fists and has clearly fallen for the hapless monk. The real wild card waits chained in a cave below a temple: the Monkey King, locked away for five hundred years and nothing like the cuddly hero of legend.
Chow rebuilds the sixteenth-century Chinese epic into his signature blend, where broad slapstick lurches into genuine horror and deliberately cheap-looking effects suddenly land a gut-punch.
