Synopsis

The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970) is an Italian giallo thriller you can watch online on iFILM. It marks Dario Argento's directing debut, the film that kicked off a whole subgenre.

Sam, an American writer in Rome played by Tony Musante, walks past an art gallery one night and sees an attack through the glass: a woman in white, a figure in a black coat, a knife. Trapped between two sliding doors, he can only watch. The victim survives, but Sam can't shake the feeling that he saw something he hasn't yet understood. A killer is stalking the city, the police are stuck, and Sam and his girlfriend Julia, played by Suzy Kendall, start digging on their own, which paints a target on both their backs.

Everything that would make Argento famous is already here: black-gloved hands, a half-remembered clue, a first-person killer's gaze, and an Ennio Morricone score. The film set the giallo template for the decade that followed. Watch it to see a debut director arrive fully formed. Stream The Bird with the Crystal Plumage (1970) online on iFILM.
