Nightcrawler

Nightcrawler (2014) is a crime thriller written and directed by Dan Gilroy — watch it online on iFILM. Jake Gyllenhaal plays Lou Bloom, a desperate drifter who stumbles onto the world of freelance crime footage and decides he was born for it. One accident on a Los Angeles freeway, one secondhand camcorder, and Lou is in business.

He sells his first clip to Nina Romina, a local TV news director played by Rene Russo, who needs gripping footage to stay on air. Lou quickly learns what sells and starts shaping events rather than simply recording them. His unlucky assistant Rick, played by Riz Ahmed, begins to realize the job description left out some important details. Bill Paxton rounds out the cast as a rival stringer who underestimates Lou badly.
