Synopsis
The Smurfs (1981) is the classic kids' cartoon series you can watch online on iFILM. Adapted from Belgian artist Peyo's comics about tiny blue creatures, it was produced by Hanna-Barbera and became a Saturday-morning fixture on NBC for most of the decade.
Three apples high, the Smurfs live in a hidden forest village of mushroom houses, each one named for a single trait: Grouchy gripes about everything, Brainy lectures nonstop, Hefty flexes his muscles, and Smurfette keeps landing in trouble. Wise old Papa Smurf, in his red hat, keeps the whole bunch in line. Their peace is broken by Gargamel, an evil but hopelessly clumsy wizard, and his cat Azrael, forever scheming to catch the little blue folk — to eat them or turn them into gold — only to be outwitted by episode's end.
The show runs on gentle, simple morals and that unmistakable Smurf-speak, where half the words get swapped out for "smurf." It's pure nostalgia for the parents who grew up on it and calm, safe viewing for the youngest kids in the room. Stream The Smurfs (1981) online on iFILM.
