About

Synopsis

House of Sand and Fog (2003) is a drama with Jennifer Connelly and Ben Kingsley you can watch online on iFILM. A clerical mistake costs a woman her family home, and the Iranian immigrant who buys it at auction has no intention of giving it back.

Kathy, freshly sober, ends up on the street thanks to a bureaucratic mix-up at the county office. The small California bungalow is snapped up by Behrani (Ben Kingsley), a former colonel in the Iranian army who sees it as a way out of poverty and a future for his son. Both of them are in the right. Neither one is the villain. That's exactly why a fight over four walls curdles into a quiet disaster, with a smitten cop who loves Kathy only making things worse.

Director Vadim Perelman made his feature debut here, adapting the novel by Andre Dubus III. Kingsley and Shohreh Aghdashlou, who plays his wife, were both up for Oscars, and the nod turned Aghdashlou into a breakout. Across 126 unhurried minutes the film tightens like a vice — it isn't about who deserves the house, but how two people who are both right can ruin each other. Heavy, and the kind that stays with you.
