Synopsis
Palm Trees in the Snow (Palmeras en la nieve, 2015) is a Spanish historical romance you can watch online on iFILM. Director Fernando González Molina sends Clarence from the snowbound peaks of Huesca to a cocoa island off the coast of Equatorial Guinea, all because of one half-burned letter.
Sorting through her late father's papers, Clarence finds a fragment that names people and a place her family never spoke of. So she flies to Fernando Poo, where her father Jacobo and her uncle Kilian once worked a colonial plantation as young men. Mario Casas plays Kilian, and the past he left behind turns out to hold a forbidden love that crossed every line the colony drew between settlers and the people who lived there.
Adapted from Luz Gabás's bestselling novel, the film runs nearly three hours and braids two eras together while a Spanish colony comes apart at the seams. It is built for viewers who want a sweeping, slow-burning saga with lush photography and a bittersweet ending rather than a quick night in. Stream Palm Trees in the Snow (2015) online on iFILM.
