Synopsis

Home Alone: The Holiday Heist (2012) is a family comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Right before Christmas, ten-year-old Finn moves with his family from sunny California into a creaky old mansion in Maine. The place feels grim and rattles in the wind, and Finn is convinced it's crawling with ghosts.

To guard his family from whatever haunts the halls, he rigs the house with a web of homemade traps. When a snowstorm strands his parents across town, Finn is left with his older sister Alexis and a long Christmas night ahead. The intruders, though, aren't spirits at all: a crew of thieves is after a painting hidden somewhere in the walls. Finn's contraptions end up snapping shut on a target he never planned for. Malcolm McDowell and Ed Asner turn up in small roles, with Peter Hewitt directing.

This fifth entry was made for television and drops the familiar formula into a haunted-house setting. It springs no surprises, but the well-worn pattern of clanging traps and flattened burglars still lands with younger viewers. A painless pick for a family night by the tree.
