Synopsis
True Grit (1969) is Henry Hathaway's classic Western, available to watch online on iFILM. Fourteen-year-old Mattie Ross rides into town to settle a score after a hired hand murders her father and bolts with the family money. She wants someone hard enough to chase him into the wild.
She hires Rooster Cogburn, an aging, hard-drinking, one-eyed U.S. Marshal played by John Wayne. Mattie pays with her father's savings and sets one condition: she comes along. Tagging behind is La Boeuf, a talkative Texas Ranger hunting the same outlaw for his own reasons. The mismatched trio crosses into Indian Territory on the trail of Lucky Ned Pepper's gang.
The part of Cogburn finally landed John Wayne his only Oscar after four decades on screen. The story comes from Charles Portis's novel, which the Coen brothers adapted again in 2010.
