Synopsis
The Roses (2025) is Jay Roach's pitch-black marital comedy, available to watch online on iFILM. Ivy and Theo look like the couple everyone envies: lovely home, good kids, two careers on the rise. Then his work collapses and hers takes off, and the balance of power tips.
What follows is a slow-burn domestic war. Theo, an architect suddenly without commissions or his old breadwinner status, curdles into resentment; Ivy, a chef finally getting her due, refuses to shrink for him. Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch play it on the small stuff — a smirk, a beat of silence, the line that can't be taken back. Andy Samberg and Kate McKinnon hover nearby as friends watching the wreck unfold.
It's a loose reworking of the story behind The War of the Roses, but Roach aims it squarely at a modern marriage where ambition and money outweigh affection. Sharp writing and two of Britain's best leads make it worth a look even if couples-imploding dramas aren't usually your thing. Stream The Roses (2025) online on iFILM.
