About

Synopsis

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) is Richard Brooks' Tennessee Williams adaptation you can watch online on iFILM, with Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor leading a Southern family on the edge. Brick, a washed-up athlete, drinks to drown his grief; his wife Maggie circles him, desperate to be wanted again.

The Pollitt clan gathers for Big Daddy's birthday, none of them ready to admit the old man is dying of cancer. Brother Gooper and his wife count heirs and acreage, Maggie fights for her marriage, and Brick stays apart from it all with a crutch in one hand and a glass in the other. Williams wrote a house full of people saying everything except what they mean, and the film keeps that pressure simmering in the dialogue rather than in big set pieces.

The picture landed six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture plus acting nods for both Newman and Taylor. Worth it if you like slow-burn family confrontations, humid melodrama and performances built on what stays unsaid. Stream Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958) online on iFILM.
