Fletch

Fletch (1985) is Michael Ritchie's crime comedy, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Chevy Chase stars as the wisecracking reporter at the height of his powers, ad-libbing faster than you can keep track of his latest fake name.

Irwin "Fletch" Fletcher is digging into drug dealing on a local beach, working undercover as a vagrant on the sand. That's when wealthy Alan Stanwyk walks up with a strange pitch: fifty thousand dollars to kill him. Stanwyk says he's dying anyway, and his death would hand his wife a fat insurance payout. Fletch plays along, but his gut tells him the whole setup stinks. What follows is a string of forged identities, ridiculous disguises and people who really wish he'd stop asking questions.

The movie rides almost entirely on Chase and his stream of deadpan one-liners, plenty of which reportedly came together on the set. Watch for Geena Davis and basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in small roles. It's a perfect fit for anyone who likes a mystery delivered straight-faced with a sly grin.
