Noragami (Seasons 1–2)

Noragami (2014) is a Studio Bones anime series you can watch online on iFILM, adapted from the manga by the duo Adachitoka. Yato is a minor god with no shrine, no worshippers and no cash, but a stubborn dream of fame.

For five yen he'll take any job going. He chases lost cats, scrubs bathrooms and slays the monstrous Phantoms that creep in from the spirit world, all to scrape together enough for a temple of his own. His life tips over when schoolgirl Hiyori Iki throws herself in front of a bus to save him. She survives, but her soul starts slipping loose from her body, and the only way to fix it is to help this scruffy stray deity make a name for himself. Hiroshi Kamiya voices Yato, with Maaya Uchida as Hiyori.

The show juggles comedy, Shinto folklore and some surprisingly sharp turns about loneliness and being forgotten. It's a great gateway for newcomers who like a light surface with real weight underneath. Stream Noragami (2014) online on iFILM.
