Synopsis

New York mob boss Johnny Lester robs a bank, double-crosses his crew, and disappears into a small California town where he opens a toy store and does a remarkably good impression of an honest man. Then he drops dead of a heart attack right before Christmas — and the will shocks everyone: every last thing he owned, including his clever dog Athena, goes to Samuel Jacobs, a thirteen-year-old whose dad happens to be the local sheriff. The catch: dangerous people start arriving from across the country. Stolen jewels are hidden somewhere in the shop, and nobody is leaving without them.
