Synopsis
(Ab)normal Desire (正欲, 2023) is a Japanese drama you can watch online on iFILM, adapted by director Yoshiyuki Kishi and screenwriter Takehito Minato — the team behind the boxing drama Wilderness — from Ryo Asai's award-winning novel. Three separate stories. Three people concealing something from the world around them.
Prosecutor Terai Hiroki (Goro Inagaki) handles cases with precision and can't figure out his own son, who has stopped attending school and won't explain why. Salesperson Natsuki Kiryu (Yui Aragaki) has a private fixation that fits no category others would recognise, and she has long since stopped trying to explain it. A university student elsewhere in Japan is looking for words for feelings that standard language won't accommodate. Their paths cross — not as a resolution, but as a quiet acknowledgment that the category of "normal" only holds up when nobody looks too closely.
Kishi doesn't offer easy answers. The film runs 134 minutes and earns them — Inagaki and Aragaki play against the story's restraint and make it feel earned rather than withheld. Stream (Ab)normal Desire (2023) online on iFILM.
