Synopsis
Nightmares in Red, White and Blue (2009) is a documentary you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Andrew Monument. With Lance Henriksen narrating, it charts the history of American horror — from the silent-era creature films of the 1920s through the slashers, body horror, and the franchise machines of the 2000s.
The film brings in John Carpenter, Joe Dante, Roger Corman, George Romero, Mick Garris, and Darren Lynn Bousman as interviewees — not to analyze the genre from outside, but because they built it. What emerges is a portrait of a country that kept scaring itself differently every decade: nuclear dread, Vietnam, AIDS panic, suburban paranoia. Less a fan survey than a cultural diagnosis.
