Synopsis
Maidentrip (2014) is a documentary you can watch online on iFILM. At fourteen, Dutch sailor Laura Dekker cast off alone from a marina in the Netherlands on a two-year attempt to circumnavigate the globe — the youngest person ever to complete the voyage solo.
Director Jillian Schlesinger filmed Laura throughout: squalls off Cape Town, bureaucratic battles with Dutch authorities who tried to block the journey, and long solitary nights in the middle of the Pacific. Laura speaks to the camera with an almost unsettling calm — she is fourteen, after all.
