Synopsis
THE DAYS, Season 1 — eight-episode Japanese drama to watch online on iFILM — re-creates the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster as it unfolded across one desperate week in March 2011.
The series moves in near real time. A fifteen-metre tsunami knocks out the plant's cooling systems. Station Manager Yoshida makes calls his own headquarters won't authorise — venting containment, switching to seawater cooling — while workers on-site ask whether they can evacuate. The government tells the public to stay calm and stay home. Each episode adds pressure from a different direction: corporate bureaucracy, political calculation, rising radiation, the human cost of every hour of delay.
By the final episode the Prime Minister is briefed on the worst-case scenario: a third of Japan, Tokyo included, uninhabitable for decades. THE DAYS works as a bureaucratic thriller more than a disaster film — the invisible threat is almost beside the point next to the visible one. Kōji Yakusho carries all eight episodes with a performance built on controlled dread. Stream THE DAYS Season 1 online on iFILM.
