Synopsis
How Viktor "The Garlic" Took Alexey "The Stud" to the Nursing Home (2017) is a Russian road-trip tragicomedy you can watch online on iFILM. It's the feature debut of director Alexander Hant, with Yevgeny Tkachuk and Aleksey Serebryakov carrying the two leads.
Viktor grew up in an orphanage — an orphan with a living father, and a stranger inside his own marriage. He dreams of walking out on a wife he never loved and a child he never planned for. Then fate hands him his dad: Alexey, an ex-con just out of prison, half-paralysed by a stroke and stuck in a wheelchair. There's an apartment in the old man's name, so the plan writes itself — dump him at a faraway nursing home, claim the flat, start over. The two set off across the broken backroads of provincial Russia.
The further they drive, the worse the plan holds. The old crook starts getting his strength back, old debts come chasing the car, and something neither man expected starts to surface between them. It's harsh, funny and bitter all at once — a story about absent fathers and the slim chance to become who you are. The film took prizes at the Kinotavr festival and stood out as one of the boldest Russian debuts of its year.
