Synopsis
Azazel (2002) is a Russian detective drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Alexander Adabashian adapted Boris Akunin's debut Fandorin novel — the book that launched one of Russia's most popular crime fiction series in the late 1990s. The story is set in Moscow in 1876.
Erast Fandorin is a minor clerk at the Investigation Department who stumbles onto something far larger than a single suspicious death. The case leads to a secret society with operatives placed at the top of several European governments, from the British Empire to the Ottoman court. Ilya Noskov plays the young Fandorin; Sergei Bezrukov, Oleg Basilashvili and Marina Neyolova round out the cast.
Adabashian gave the adaptation genuine period weight: costumes, interiors, even the pacing feel calibrated to the 19th century. For viewers who want their detective fiction anchored in historical texture rather than modern shorthand, this three-and-a-half-hour miniseries rewards the time. Stream Azazel online on iFILM.
