Synopsis
Down House (2001) is a cult Russian comedy you can stream online on iFILM. Director Roman Kachanov takes Dostoevsky's The Idiot and moves the whole story into post-Soviet Moscow, with Ivan Okhlobystin as a programmer who just got out of a Swiss psychiatric clinic.
On the bus home he meets Rogozhin — Fyodor Bondarchuk as a violent, love-sick businessman — and the plot of the novel unspools from there. Nastasya Filippovna, the rivalry, the tragedy: all intact. Just with gangster slang instead of philosophical speeches, and crumbling apartment blocks instead of Petersburg drawing rooms.
