Caesar Must Die
Его смерть откроет им глаза на их жизнь
Synopsis
Caesar Must Die (2012) — an Italian documentary-drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Paolo and Vittorio Taviani. The film claimed the Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival. Inside Rome's Rebibbia maximum-security prison, theatre director Fabio Cavalli casts inmates in a production of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar — several of the performers are serving life sentences.
The rehearsals are where the film earns its weight. When prisoners deliver lines about betrayal, ambition, and the cost of loyalty, the words land differently than they would in any theatre. Faces do the heavy lifting. Shot mostly in black and white with flashes of colour at critical moments, the Taviani brothers constructed something that erases the boundary between performance and personal reckoning so gradually that you only notice it when the curtain falls.
