Synopsis
Mondocane (2021) is an Italian sci-fi action drama you can watch online on iFILM. Alessandro Celli's debut feature drops you into the near future, where the southern city of Taranto has been ringed with barbed wire that nobody — not even the police — will cross.
Behind the fence, the poorest scrape by and rival gangs carve up the streets. Two thirteen-year-old orphans, raised side by side, share one dream: to be taken in by the crew run by a magnetic young boss called Testacalda, played by Alessandro Borghi. They get their wish. But the deeper the boys sink into someone else's turf war, the harder their bond starts to crack, until the two friends end up on opposite sides.
Celli shoots a bleak coming-of-age dystopia against the real, poisoned industrial sprawl of Taranto — the apocalypse here is social more than science fiction.
