Synopsis
Dancing on Glass (Las niñas de cristal, 2022) is a Spanish drama you can watch online on iFILM. Jota Linares directs a film about what ballet costs: young dancer Irene is suddenly handed the lead role, and the weight of expectation starts to crack her.
Opening night looms, rehearsals grind her down, and a voice inside keeps demanding a perfection that doesn't exist. Her lifeline becomes Aurora, a bold, untethered newcomer to the company. The friendship grows fast and tight, walling both girls off from family, teachers and any sense of proportion. The further it goes, the harder it is to tell support from a codependency dragging them under. María Pedraza and Paula Losada play the pair on a knife's edge.
Linares strips the glamour from ballet here: bloodied pointe shoes, eating disorders, the pressure that breaks people who are barely grown.
