Synopsis
The Man from Rome (La piel del tambor, 2022) is a detective thriller from director Sergio Dow that you can watch online on iFILM. A hacker slips past Vatican security and leaves the pope an anonymous warning: an old church in Seville is taking lives, as if the building itself is fighting to survive.
Rome sends Father Quart, a priest who works for Vatican intelligence and is far more comfortable with secrets than with prayer. Richard Armitage plays him cool and unreadable. Waiting for him in Seville is a crumbling 17th-century Baroque church that developers are itching to demolish, an old aristocratic family with plenty to hide, and a string of deaths that look a little too neatly like accidents. Franco Nero and Paul Freeman round out the cast.
The film adapts the novel by Arturo Pérez-Reverte, Spain's go-to author for cerebral mysteries, and it leans on contrast: ancient stone against modern hacking, faith against cold calculation. The pace is deliberate and the mood does the heavy lifting rather than the action. Watch The Man from Rome (2022) online on iFILM.
