Synopsis
Ostap Bender: Gold of the Empire (2021) is a Russian action-comedy adventure you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Igor Zaytsev, it follows young Ostap (Aram Vardevanyan) and his sly mentor Ibrahim, played by Sergei Bezrukov, as they chase the lost gold of the Tsarist empire. This is the second chapter in a trilogy about the con man's early years.
A priceless scepter — their ticket to an easy life under the sun of Rio de Janeiro — slips away and lands in the hands of anarchist commander Nestor Makhno. Makhno is sure more imperial relics lie buried nearby. Soon Reds, Whites, gangsters and partisans are all racing for the same fabled hoard. Ostap has to outwit every one of them, and win back a girl who has lost faith in him and is about to marry someone else.
The cast is stacked: Alexander Tsekalo, Yulia Rutberg, Pavel Derevyanko, Yuri Kolokolnikov. It is not an adaptation of Ilf and Petrov but a freewheeling origin tale, staged big — chases, shootouts, pre-revolution flavour. Easy popcorn fare, played with real gusto.
