Synopsis

Someone Has to Die (Alguien tiene que morir, 2020), Season 1 is a three-episode limited series you can watch online on iFILM — a Spanish-Mexican period drama set in the rigid 1950s. Young Gabino is called back from Mexico to marry Cayetana, but he arrives home with a male ballet dancer, Lázaro, at his side.

Three episodes, and the noose tightens fast. It starts as whispers — the Falcón circle eyeing the closeness between the two men. Then a jilted Cayetana spreads a rumor, and suspicion hardens into a witch-hunt the pair try to flee. By the finale, the elders will do almost anything to bury the scandal, and a long-hidden family truth finally turns the Falcóns against one another. Franco's Spain isn't just backdrop here; it's the airless frame that punishes anyone who steps outside the rules.

Creator Manolo Caro made this for Netflix as a tight, theatrical tragedy, with Carmen Maura and Ernesto Alterio as parents clinging to appearances. The compressed length suits it — not a wasted scene. It's for anyone who likes a costume drama with venom under the velvet. Stream Someone Has to Die Season 1 online on iFILM.
