Synopsis
All That Breathes (2022) is a documentary you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Shaunak Sen. It follows two brothers in Old Delhi who run an informal rescue clinic for black kites — birds of prey that plummet from the smog-choked sky by the hundreds.
Mohammad Saud and Nadeem Shehzad work out of a cramped basement, treating injured kites on cardboard-box shelves, funding the whole operation out of pocket. The black kite is Delhi's scavenger bird — unglamorous, unloved — and that makes the brothers' devotion stranger and more compelling. Sen spent three years filming as the air quality worsened and communal violence flared in the streets above. The film uses this bird and these two men to trace the shape of a city under slow collapse.
It claimed the Grand Jury Prize at Sundance 2022 and the L'Œil d'or at Cannes the same year — the top documentary prize at both festivals in one season. Quiet, unhurried, and strange in the best way. Stream All That Breathes (2022) online on iFILM.
