A violent seizure floors her in the campus library. Doctors suspect epilepsy, but the attacks flare up whenever Anja is near, the classmate Thelma can't stop wanting. Eilif Harboe plays a young woman who slowly grasps a terrifying truth: her buried desires can make people vanish, and her own childhood hides a secret her parents kept locked away for years.

Trier, the director behind Oslo, August 31st, skips cheap scares for a cold Nordic parable about guilt, faith and repressed sexuality, with the uncanny standing in as metaphor. Jakob Ihre's photography and the glacial score keep every frame quietly menacing. This one is for fans of slow, cerebral horror closer to Cronenberg than to jump-scare fare.
