Synopsis
The Way Home (집으로..., 2002) is a Korean family drama you can watch online on iFILM. Sang-woo, a spoiled seven-year-old from the city, is dropped off for the summer with his mute grandmother in a remote mountain village.
At first the boy treats the old woman as an easy mark — he's rude, swipes her coins, breaks her things, and sulks over toys the village simply doesn't have. She never says a word and never answers his cruelty; she just hauls water, mends his shoes, and gives him whatever little she has. The two share no spoken language at all, and the film runs almost without dialogue. Everything rides on glances, gestures, and the slow thaw inside a child's heart.
Director Lee Jung-hyang based the story on her own grandmother and cast a real villager, Kim Eul-boon, who had never faced a camera before, in the lead. The film became a real sensation in Korea and packed theaters for months. A quiet, unadorned picture that leaves you wanting to call your own grandparents.
