Synopsis
Lost on Everest (2020) is a National Geographic documentary you can watch online on iFILM. Nearly a century ago two British climbers vanished near the top of the world — and we still don't know whether they reached it first.
In June 1924 George Mallory and his young partner Andrew "Sandy" Irvine set off up the north ridge and never came back. Mallory's body wasn't found until 1999; Irvine simply disappeared, somewhere around 800 feet below the summit. A team of elite alpinists led by cinematographer and director Renan Öztürk follows a fresh lead to where Irvine might still lie — and, with him, the small camera he carried. If the film inside survived, those frames could rewrite the history of Everest: did the pair stand on top twenty-nine years before Hillary and Tenzing?
Öztürk shoots the climb from the inside — thin air, wind, narrow ledges over a long drop — and keeps you in the same suspense as the expedition itself. An hour of high-altitude detective work where one mistake is fatal. Stream Lost on Everest (2020) online on iFILM.
