Three poachers are blast-fishing by a river with a stick of dynamite. Their mutt, Barbos, has one talent: fetch. So when the lit charge sails into the water, the dog dives in and proudly carries it straight back. What follows is the "unusual cross" of the title — Coward, Fool and Worldly sprinting across fields and ditches to escape both the bomb and their loyal pet.

This is where Georgy Vitsin, Yuri Nikulin and Yevgeny Morgunov first teamed up, a partnership that would later carry Moonshiners and Kidnapping, Caucasian Style.
